Effects of Experience on Executive Functioning in Children: Seek & Sort

Age: 5-years old

Time/Location: About 20 minutes playing games with a researcher at Queen’s University!

Background: Executive functioning (EF) refers to a set of cognitive skills that are responsible for planned, goal-directed behaviour. These skills include the ability to maintain information in memory, the ability to restrict impulses, and the ability to shift attention and to think flexibly about different objects. This study’s goal is to examine how particular types of experiences may promote performance on a measure of EF. Children will play a game sorting colours, shapes, and patterns according to different rules while parents fill out questionnaires.
